FAQ

I am not Jewish. Does this mean I can't join / won't fit in?

Sigma is a Jewish interest sorority, but it is important to note that Sigma does not exclude non-Jewish women from joining. In fact, one of Sigma's six Eternal Mothers is not Jewish.
You can join regardless of your religious affiliation. Just keep in mind that this is a Jewish interest sorority, and you should only join if you are open to new experiences.
We have a variety of sisters varying from Conservative Jews to Agnostic Jews to Non-Jewish Sisters.

How do sisters balance school and social life?

The Scholarship Chair enforces the sorority's 2.2 requirements for GPA. The Scholarship chair also encourages studying by reserving a library room for sisters to use. Many sisters are willing to help you study or have taken the same classes.

I have financial concerns. Is Sigma affordable for me?

Many sororities charge hundreds of dollars in dues each semester. Sigma is committed to keeping the cost of dues at a bare minimum. Dues only cover the cost of events and expenses, and the group makes a sincere attempt to account for the various financial backgrounds of its members. The sisterhood votes on our dues so it varies every semester. If for some reason a sister cannot afford the dues, special arrangements will be made so that she is not denied a sorority experience.

What is Sigma's role in PHC? Are you Panhellenic Members?

We are Panhellenic Council Associates. This means we have two delegate representatives on the council. We are able to make decisions that affect the Greek community as a whole.
We participate in Greek-wide events. However, we DO NOT participate in Formal Recruitment (Panhellenic Recruitment). Instead, we hold our own recruitment events.

FAQ: FAQ

How does the recruitment process work?

Potential sisters attend recruitment events to get to know the chapter. Check the recruitment page for more information or contact our recruitment chair!

Does Sigma have a house?

No, we do not. We believe a sisterhood exists outside of a physical house. However, we are open to getting a house in the future.

How is the sorority involved with the community?

We are involved with other Greek organizations, religious groups, and organizations. We hold philanthropies to raise money and host community service events to get students involved. Sigma has a requirement for sisters to attend 3 community service events per year, enforced by the Community Service Chair.
Social events are organized by Greek Outreach, Social Chair, Programming Chair, Religious Chair, and many more. Sisters must attend 3 religious or cultural events per year.

What kind of special events do sisters have the privilege of?

Aside from Greek Exchanges and programs specifically for sisters, special events are a big part of sorority life and bonding.
Formal Chair organizes a semesterly event for the sisterhood where sisters invite a date and Retreat Chair organizes semesterly retreats for the sisters.

How does the big/little system work?

Once you join the sorority, you get a big sister that helps you throughout your sorority experience.
Your big will give you your letters (jacket)!!!! The family lineage your big is in determines your family!
